Vineyards in Nebraska

Grapevines love Nebraska soil. They like rolling hills with water far below, but within reach, and brisk winds to keep unwanted intruders away. These are all the ingredients for growing grapes that make award-winning wine. A lot of French- American hybrids or American varietals are grown here. Some of these winter-hardy grapes include Edelweiss, LaCrosse, St. Croix, and Vignoles. 5,000 acres of vineyards flourished during the late 1800s in Nebraska. WWI, Prohibition, and the Great Depression uprooted the industry until a few visionaries dared to plant grapes among the corn again in the 1980s. For more information, visit NebraskaWines.com.
