What makes our island a simply grand place to live A ccording to Area Development Magazine’s recent Leading Metro Locations study, Grand Island emerged as the highest ranked metro area in Nebraska for economic growth in 2023. Grand Island secured the 22nd overall position in the nation. Additionally, Grand Island has achieved the impressive ranking of 3rd for core economic indicators, 11th for economic strength, and 30th for wage and salary growth out of 384 metros in the United States. Area Development Magazine facilitated the five-year Leading Metro Locations study, measuring the data of metropolitan communities across the country. The study compared local gross domestic product and how it’s trending, unemployment rates, job growth, and how well the needs of employers are matched with the labor market. Grow Grand Island core partners — the Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce, Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation, and Grand Island Tourism — in conjunction with the City of Grand Island are delighted to announce this significant achievement reflecting the dedication, collaboration, and forward-thinking approach of our local businesses, community stakeholders, and city government. The results of this study position Grand Island as a leader of economic prosperity in Nebraska, outpacing other metro areas in the region. This designation can be validated with a drive down Grand Island’s Highway 281 corridor, a stroll through Railside, or cooling off at the Veterans Athletic Complex's splash pad. This recognition is a testament to our community's commitment to fostering innovation, attracting investment, and creating a positive environment for businesses and residents to thrive.
