A Platte River channel borders the north edge of the park. The city of Grand Island recently purchased the historic former Boy Scout Camp Augustine located just north of Mormon Island with the intention of working closely with Nebraska Game and Parks to build a public complex dedicated to outdoor recreation and education. When completed, the project will encompass some 550 acres

and is set to transform the park into a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and families alike.
